How to Turn Your Passion into Profit | Ground Of Success
Let us imagine you are at your retirement age and looking back ask yourself these questions-
- Did you do something you are proud of?
- Did you manage to achieve your goals?
- Are you satisfied with the career you choose?
- Did you follow your dreams?
If the answer to any of those above questions is no or if you were not able to answer a few of those questions, I need you to take out some time and think whether you are on the right track because I think you are definitely going wrong somewhere.
SETH GODIN once said-
“Turning your passion into your job is easier than finding a job that matches your passion.”
I strongly agree with him. Your life’s story is made up of moments that define the way you are living. I have seen a lot of people struggling either personally or financially to achieve victory through persistence or passion. Failures happen. You lose sometimes and you need to accept that if you really want to win because failures make you strong and even more dedicated towards victory.

Do studies show that only 30% of the people in this world are able to turn their passion into a profitable career?
Is nothing wrong to do a job that has nothing to do with your passion? But I would say it is wrong to neglect your dreams because of it? Following your passion as your career gives you the energy to get up in the morning and go and do the work you like.
A popular motivational public speaker, Sandeep Maheshwari says that- If you are playing a game just because the outcome of that game is favorable to you even though you do not like the game, then it is not passion. You have to do all the hard work, you have to focus on it completely, it is going to be difficult because you have no interest in that work.
Then what is Passion?
Passion is a feeling of intense enthusiasm or a compelling desire for someone or something. In other words, it means if you have decided to do something, then you will get it done no matter what. You will go into all the depths for it and it would not get boring at all because you like doing that work. It is about playing the game, not about winning it.
How to find out your Passion?
Passion is always mixed with hobbies and interests, but there is a huge difference. Ken Coleman, a career expert depends on two factors to differentiate between hobby and his passion for something.
If the value of both emotion and devotion is high, you have the love for it and you can put all the amount of time for it then it is a Passion.
On the other hand, if the value of emotion is high, but the value of devotion is not that high or not present there at all, then it a hobby.
Let us consider an example, I like watching Korean dramas a lot and I am obsessed with it. But I cannot say it is my passion. I am not earning anything from it. I am not devoting any extra time to go into the depth of it means there is no devotion at all but emotion, yes, they have a higher value.
On the other hand, I like programming codes too. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in computers. I am going into all the depth for it by doing different courses and taking up different assignments. I also know that I can turn this interest into a career also. I am devoted to it. This is what you can call a passion.
Hobbies cannot make you an entrepreneur neither you can build a company based on your hobby but if you follow your passion then yes it might happen.
How do you find out your Passion?
If there is one thing you can do to transform your life, I would recommend it to be find something you are passionate about and do that for a living. But a lot of people do not know how they can find out their passion for something. Here is how you can do it-
You need to ask yourself a few questions-
- Is there something you like to do that makes you happy?
- Is there something that makes you proud?
- Do you have a dream?
- Are you true to yourself when it comes to interests and beliefs?
If it is hard for you to answer these questions or you are confused, take a little help from someone. Your loved ones always know the best for you.
You can also talk to people who have the same interest as you. They will help you clear out your confusion even more.
Take out a moment from your schedule and think about what a perfect day for you would be. Maybe it is exploring the world or owning a company. Whatever it is, it should appear perfect to you and it can probably be something you are passionate about. Now if it is a passion, are you able to visualize yourself doing it? I am sure if you love something there will be no problem for you to visualize it.
3) Forget about the money:
It is an undeniable fact that money is an important part of everyone’s life. For the time being, I want you to focus on your passion because it is priceless. For example, if you love to ride a horse but you do not have the money to buy it, find work at the stable. You cannot put a price on emotions. Think about the tasks you will do for free.
4) Make a vision board:
Make a creativity board. Attach pictures, drawings, quotes whatever material you have related to your passion. It can prove to be a helpful way to prompt your passion.
I need you to stop and think about the things that actually make you happy. You can even list everything that comes on your mind. Then go over that list after you are done and outline those that make you the happiest. That is your passion.
6) Do more:
Doing different things is the best way to find out what you are most passionate about. While trying out different things you may as well come across something that was missing from your life. Keep trying new activities until your passion reveals itself.
7) Follow your gut feeling.
You should never ignore that small voice inside you, your intuition. It will tell you what you love doing and give you the best idea about your passion to put you on the right track.
8) What gives you Motivation?
Everyone has times when they are feeling as if they could keep going forever with a particular work. Find out what gives you this kind of energy and motivation to keep going on. Try thinking about “what you want to do”? and not what you feel “you should do”. Discover your creativity. Where do you want to channel your creative energy?
If I get passionate about something, I read a lot about it to gather as much information as possible. Researching not only helps you become more educated, but it will also help you to find out different ways you can pursue your passion. You can read newspapers, blogs, magazines etc., you can even take a class for it like a writing course or a pottery course, anything you like. Taking a class may lead you to things you may not have considered doing at all.
10) Decide what is easy for you.
It is always easy to do things that we love or are passionate about. Ask yourself what comes easily to you. It could be the case that you are not that good at it but you can be passionate about it. For you to be passionate about something it is not always necessary for you to be excellent at it. You can always learn and improve. Practice more and more and someday you will achieve the desired outcome.
After reading the above ways I hope you will be able to know your passion and follow it. One thing I would like to mention is never given up. Finding your passion may not happen overnight. Keep going and remember once you find it, the hard work is over and now you have the time to fulfill and enjoy it.
We talked about passion and how to find it and also to differentiate it from your hobbies. Now the biggest question arises-
Can you turn your Passion into a Profitable Career?
We all know Bill Gates, an American business magnate, software developer, investor, and philanthropist. In other words, he is the richest man in the world. Legend has it that he went to work in his garage and suddenly Microsoft was born. But obviously it is more complicated than that. He was an exceptional math student. When he was 13, his school had a computer, which taught people how to code. During his lunchtime, gates would go to the computer room and tinker with the machine until he knew how to program. There is a lot to learn from him. He followed his passion and made a career out of it.
Rachel Green, a popular character of the famous TV show FRIENDS, went from a spoiled brat to a waitress and finally pursued her passion for fashion later on by working in Ralph Lauren.
The list goes on. You can find a lot of people who struggled so much to turn their passion into the way of living.
8 Steps to Follow your Passion:
1. Start Small:
Pursuing your passion as a career is no big joke. My advice to you is to start small with a little amount of capital and resources. This is because you are trying out this business for the first time and you do not know what the future has in store for you. Of course, you can expect an uphill battle, but taking this step will help you to be sure about your decision. You can start with something as simple as making a website or writing a blog about your passion. Even if you are not sure about this career option, after you are through with this step you will probably be able to answer all your queries.
For example, if you like writing, and you plan on becoming an author. Then you should test your skills and ability by writing a book and publishing it online. Wait for it to get views and during this whole process you will know whether this is your correct path or not.
2. Check out the Competition:
Yes, it is important to know your competition. For a successful business, you need to be aware of your competitors. Not only will it give you the motivation to build up your business but, it will also help you to identify the areas where you are going wrong so that you can improve it and be better than your competitors.
3. Take Feedback:
The process of giving and receiving feedback is very important in business. Otherwise, how would you know that your service was carried out successfully and whether it made the right impact on the customers? You should be open to both positive and negative feedback. The positive feedback will give you the motivation to go on, whereas the criticism will help you to improve.
4. Fake it till you make it:
This is the hardest one to achieve. We all have our fears, and we tend to stop doing a lot of things because of fear. Even if you feel the fear, don’t quit. And most importantly act smartly so that even if you are scared, the other person should not know about it. If he does, he might use it against you. Risking a monthly paycheck for a startup is bold, but the outcome at the end will be worth it.
5. Make sure you Plan:
It is very important to plan. If you do things in an unplanned manner, you are bound to fail. If you have an endpoint in mind, you need to plan things to reach that endpoint.
6. Make connections:
Aim to build connections in real life and online social media platforms. Customers come back to a place only if they feel a connection. If people like you, they are bound to tell others about it.
7. Start today not tomorrow:
Do anything except wasting your time. Time is money but it is also your only asset. Be sure to use it wisely. Rather than wasting your time on things which can be available without making an effort, focus on those which require your attention. Quit being lazy and do not leave the work to be done some other day.
With these tips and tricks, I am sure you provided the right time and opportunities, you can successfully build up a career you like and you never have to force yourself to work.
